The Rademacher House in Crete, Nebraska

February 7, 2010 by karen

When Dale, Louis, Joan, Kyle and I visited Crete in 1991, one of the highlights of our visit was a tour of the Rademacher House.

After stopping at the church and cemetery, we went to the offices of the local newspaper to what they might have to say about the Rademachers who used to live in Crete. One of the reporters directed us to the Rademacher House at 1424 Grove Street. We decided to drive by.
We got out and looked around and Dale decided to ring the bell. A young man answered the door; he was a local college student and did babysitting for the family who lived there. He immediately recognized our name and offered to give us a tour.

The house was lovely, and many of the original furnishings were still intact. As our tour was wrapping up, one of the owners returned home. The young man called out, “The Rademachers are here! The Rademachers are here!”, as if we were famous celebrities.
Good times.
With a little bit of research, we were able to determine the location of Joseph and Josepha Rademacher’s house.

Of course, it wasn’t quite as grand as Frank’s.
