You can find many references in online family trees to Daniel Dill’s supposed death in 1843. I don’t know where that date came from, because it’s wrong. Daniel Dill died on May 29, 1855.

We know for sure that Daniel Dill was in Mobile, Alabama by 1839. Between census records and his probate file, it’s clear that he had established a business, bought a home, owned slaves, and cultivated a network of friends and associates. 

Part 2 – Daniel Dill’s Missing Years

We can’t fully account for Daniel’s whereabouts between 1805 and 1839. This is frustrating because during this period, he may have been married and he clearly came into some wealth. Whether the wealth was inherited or from the fruits of his own labor we don’t really know.
