Ella Frasier to her brother Edward, 1894

August 25, 2013 by karen

We now add a new voice to the collection: Ella Frasier, youngest sister of Edward. At the time of this letter, she is 32 years old. She never married and, as far as I know, lived with her mother Ann Campbell Frasier until Ann’s death. The letter is written from Woodlawn, Nebraska – a spot […]

From Mabel Miller, 1893

August 17, 2013 by karen

This letter is perhaps the strangest letter in my collection. So strange, in fact, that I thought about ignoring it as some sort of prank. But now I’m beginning to think it might be the most significant letter that I have! As background, the letter is addressed to “Uncle Ed”. Also mentioned is “Aunt Maggie”. […]

An undated letter from Ann Campbell to Edward Frasier

August 14, 2013 by karen

Sadly, this letter is undated. Edward’s wife Ida is mentioned, so I presume it was written sometime after April 1886. For the purposes of filing the document, I have estimated the date as January 1, 1887. Ann, ever the entrepreneur, is buying and selling pigs. It sounds like she may have gotten a free pig […]

A letter from Grandmother, 1886

August 14, 2013 by karen

This letter was written by Edward’s Grandmother, Elizabeth Tainsh Campbell, on Christmas Day 1886. In her letter, she says she is 92 years old, but her handwriting is remarkably steady and legible!

Perry Hadsall, 1886

August 12, 2013 by karen

Interspersed with letters from his mother, I found this letter from Edward’s “old” friend Perry Hadsall. Perry has recently taken up a homestead near Wray, Colorado. Perry seems to be bragging a bit and is trying to entice Edward to move west. Perry appears to be a Nebraska friend, not a Wisconsin or Iowa friend, […]
