Favorite Photo

January 31, 2021 by karen

This week I am asked to “tell the story of a favorite photo — who is in it, when and where was it taken, and why was it taken.” I have so many precious photos in my collection it is impossible to pick just one. But I decided this time to put Dale’s family in the spotlight and I have chosen an iconic Rademacher family portrait.

Dale’s immigrant ancestors on the Rademacher side were Joseph and Josepha Rademacher, who came to America in 1878 with three children and Josepha’s mother. The family prospered in America – though never what I would call “rich”, they farmed in Saline County near Crete, Nebraska.

In 1920, Joseph and Josepha celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a High Nuptial Mass at the local church where they renewed their vows. They also posed for a formal family portrait with their nine surviving children and one granddaughter (who was a flower girl for the Mass that day). I have a lot more information about this special day in this previous blog post.

Front: Sr. Rocha, Josepha Rademacher, Josephine Willie, Joseph Rademacher, Sr. Elizabeth. Middle: Joe Rademacher, Helena Nave, Catherine Willie, Anna Hoesche, and Henry Rademacher. Back: Josephine Maas and Tony Rademacher

All the genealogy details about this family are available on my genealogy sub-site, with this page as a good launching point.
