Scottish genealogy research

January 28, 2016 by karen

scotlandExciting news for my Scottish cousins! I’ve decided to embark on a nine-day Scottish genealogy trip in June.  In addition to researching records in archives and libraries in Edinburgh, I will also set out into the countryside to visit my Fraser and Campbell ancestral villages such as Crieff, Leslie, and Insch. Dale has Scottish roots too (Cogburn family) and he will be joining me for at least a part of the trip.

I’ll be blogging about the Scottish side of my family quite a bit in the coming months as I prepare for the trip.

“Sláinte” and “Auld Lang Syne”! (That’s about it for my knowledge of Scottish Gaelic.)

I’m jealous. I tried to go to Fraser Castle but it was closed because of snow in April. I researched at the Aberdeen genealogy society and found the information about the minister urging Andrew’ mother and father to get married before Andrew the second child was born.
Have you been to Scotland before? The first time I was on a bus tour and when we crossed over from England I had a strong feeling I was home. Strange? yes. Enjoy you trip and share the fruits of you discovery.
