Great

April 9, 2021 by karen

This week should be great… because that’s the theme! It could be someone many generations back (like a great-great-great-great-great-grandfather), an ancestor who did something “great,” or someone who was great in some other way.

Is there a resemblance to Dale?

Looking over both Dale’s and my family trees, there is one line that stretches farther than any other. It is on Dale’s mother’s side of the family and stretches back to Dale’s 35th-great-grandfather, Charlemagne – as in “King of the Franks” and “Holy Roman Emperor”.

I think there’s a chance this is mostly fiction, but on the other hand I do know that many people can legitimately trace their ancestry to Charlemagne so it’s not out of the question.

Here’s the lineage. This is fakey copy-paste genealogy and certainly not up to any of my personal standards. I did do some fishing around on WikiTree and the line from Charlemagne down to Joseph Vail looks pretty close.

Solomon Vail deserves some research, he was purportedly a Revolutionary War patriot.
