J.W. Johnson to Edna and Clara Pearson, 1920

February 27, 2014 by karen

J.W. Johnson, b. 1843

This is an interesting but kind of sad letter sent four months after the passing of my great-grandfather P.W. Pearson. J.W. Johnson first addresses his grand-niece Edna, thanking her for a letter she had sent previously.

The Wilcox Posse – “Who are those guys?”

Did you watch “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” on PBS last night? It was pretty good. They spent quite a bit of time talking about the Pinkerton posses that chased after Butch and Sundance. Remember this dialogue from the 1969 movie? Joe LeFors was a real person, and he really did go after Butch […]

January 29, 2014 by karen

Not quite three weeks after P.W. died, Clara’s Uncle Johnson sent her this letter of condolence. I have been doing a considerable amount of research lately into the Johnson family – J.W., Gustafva, and all their siblings. I have some new and interesting findings to share in the coming weeks. Stay tuned! Here’s is Uncle […]

Evelyn Johnson Carruth to Clara Pearson, 1920

January 23, 2014 by karen

This letter was written in May, 1920, just a few weeks before P.W.’s death. It is from Evelyn (Johnson) Carruth, Clara’s first cousin. Evelyn’s father, J.W. Johnson, and Clara’s mother, Gustafva, were siblings. Evelyn has just returned home from the hospital with her newborn son and is thanking Clara for a doily. Clara has a […]

January 20, 2014 by karen

I have one more out-of-sequence letter before we get back on track. This one was written in January 1919 by Rae Johnson, Melven’s wife (Melven was the author of the letter in the previous post). Melven (or is it Melvin? I’ve seen it spelled both ways) mentioned in his previous letter that Clara might remember […]
