Welcome to Rudeen Roots

January 24, 2010 by karen

Here’s the first entry in my new Rudeen genealogy blog.

The Family of Gustav and Augusta Rudeen

This is a photo of the family of Gustav (“Gust”) and Augusta Rudeen, our first Rudeen ancestors to come to the United States. Gust and Augusta came in 1881. This photo was taken many years later and shows them along with their five children: Minnie, Walter, Harry, Lawrence and Edith.
You can click on the photo to pop up a larger version. Does anyone see any family resemblances? I have an opinion or two but I’d be curious to hear what others think.
Minnie (upper right), the oldest, never married. Walter (upper left) married Anna Johnson. The “Omaha Rudeens” are descended from Walt and Anna’s family. Harry (center) died in his 20’s as a result of diabetes. Lawrence (in Augusta’s lap) is my grandfather. Edith (on Gust’s lap) married Ed Johnson who was Anna Johnson’s younger brother. Many of us Rudeen first cousins played with the Samuelson boys (Scott, John and Jay) when we were growing up – Ed and Edith were their grandparents.
Whenever the Johnson clan gets together, they often include the Lawrence Rudeen clan due to the double relation.
